Buchanan Can't Make The Call

We got to the table to see Shawn Buchanan heads up with another player on a board that read {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs}. There was about 20,000 in the middle, and Buchanan checked to his opponent, who fired out 14,000. Buchanan made the call, and the river was the {a-Hearts}. Buchanan thought for about a minute before checking, and his opponent thought for about 30 seconds before betting 32,000. Buchanan went deep into the tank, finally electing to fold after about 3 minutes of thinking.

Despite losing that pot, it's been a good day for Buchanan, as he has doubled the stack of 83,000 that he came into today with.

Grondin Grows

When we reached Table 40, Laurence Grondin had {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} in front of her, and her opponent had {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}. The board read {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, and the dealer was counting down Grondin's stack.

The final count was just short of 40,000, and Grondin doubled to nearly 80,000.

Three Bullets from Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu opened to 2,700 from early position, three players called, and the flop fell {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The blinds checked to Negreanu, who fired 5,200, and one player on his left called.

The turn was the {q-Clubs}, and Negreanu fired again. This time the bet was 8,600, and his opponent called.

The {a-Clubs} completed the board, and Negreanu emptied the chamber, tossing out 10,200. His opponent folded, and Negreanu mucked the winner.

Jaka Jett

With 17,000 in the pot and a board reading {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Karina Jett led out for 6,200 from the big blind and received a call from Faraz Jaka on the button. When the {5-Clubs} peeled off on the river, Jett fired out 7,000 only to have Jaka respond with a raise to 27,500.

It proved too much for Jett, who jettisoned her cards to the muck.

JJ Liu is Out

J.J. Liu
J.J. Liu

We didn't quite get how the action went, but we do know that on a {7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Spades} board, JJ Liu managed to get all in and was at risk against an unknown opponent. Liu held {A-}{A-} while her opponent held {j-}{j-} for the a set. The {10-Clubs} on the river was no help to Liu and she was sent home just shy of Day 3.

Kaplan Spikes a Set To Double Up

We don't know the exact action, but we do know there was about 20,000 in the pot when the flop came down {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Kaplan managed to get the rest of his 68,400 in on this flop with {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, and he was up against his opponents {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, Kaplan would need to dodge an ace or a four to secure the hand, and he did that, as the board completed {8-Clubs} and {q-Spades}.

It's been a roller coaster day for Kaplan, and after that hand, he's back up to 157,000.

Kirby Closing in on 200K

Matt Kirby raised to 2,600 from early position and was called by both the blinds. When the flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades}, it went check-check to Kirby, who bet 4,600. Both his opponents folded and the man from Minnesota took down the pot.

It wasn't much of a hand, but it served as a good excuse to tell you Kirby is up to 190,000, which is quite a bit more than the last time we checked in on him.

Yang tagged along, and the flop came down {j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Yang checked to his opponent, who fired out 8,800. Yang came back with a check raise to 24,000, and his opponent laid his hand down.

The Defending Champ Gives It Up

We saw the ESPN cameras filming over at Pius Heinz's table and made our way over to discover he was contemplating a decision after betting 7,000 on a {10-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{J-Clubs} board only to have his opponent raise to 20,000. There was about 20,000 already in the pot from previous action, so it was a fairly big hand.

Heinz thought as the cameras rolled, but ultimately he laid it down, which appeared to be a good choice as his opponent showed {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}.
