Survival for van Alphen

Shamus

Jesse Sylvia raised from middle position, and when it folded back around to Niels van Alphen in the blinds he pushed all in for about 235,000 total. Sylvia instantly called, turning over {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} while van Alphen showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

The flop came {2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}, putting van Alphen in the lead. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and river the {5-Spades}, and van Alphen survives, though still sits with one of the shorter stacks.

David "ODB" Baker

David "ODB" Baker raised to 52,000 from middle position, then Jonathan Schoder reraised to 140,000 from the button. It folded back to Baker who called, then both players checked the {2-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop.

Baker took the opportunity to lead for 150,000 when the turn brought the {4-Spades}, and after much deliberation, Schoder raised to 340,000 — about a third of his remaining stack. Baker waited a full three minutes before acting, then finally announced he was all in. Schoder instantly mucked his hand.

Salaburu Takes the Lead

[user20283]

Robert Salaburu just raised to 60,000 on the button, and David Peters defended his big blind.

The flop came down {J-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and Peters checked. Salaburu bet 30,000, and Peters check-raised to 95,000. Salaburu plays at a very high pace, and he snap-called.

On the turn the {5-Diamonds} hit, and Peters moved all in for 518,000. Salaburu snap-called.

Peters was looking to catch one of the two remaining sixes, but the river was the {10-Clubs}. After winning this pot Salaburu jumps ahead of Kyle Keranen, and takes the chip lead. Both players are seated at the ESPN Stage, and Marcel Lüske is caught in between these two massive stacks.

Watson Wins Three-Way Pot at Showdown

[user68268]

From middle position, Charles Coultas put in an opening raise to 62,000. He found a call from David Warady in the small blind and Cylus Watson in the big blind before the dealer rolled out the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop. All three players checked.

The turn card was the {3-Diamonds} and Warady bet 175,000. Watson called and then Coultas also made the call. The {10-Clubs} then completed the board on the river and all three players checked.

Warady showed the {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for a pair of jacks. Watson showed the {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a pair of aces and Coultas mucked. Watson's hand was best at the showdown and he won the pot.

Barta Straightened Out By Yontz on the River

Action folded to Casey Yontz in the cutoff and he put in a raise to 65,000, which prompted Balint Barta to move all in for 383,000 from the button. Both blinds got out of the way, Yontz asked for a count, and a call was made.

Showdown

Barta{A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Yontz{Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Barta was ahead, but the {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades} gave Yontz a gut-shot straight draw to go along with his live cards. The {5-Spades} turn was of no consequence, but the {9-Diamonds} river was as it gave Yontz the said straight and the win.

Smith Squeezes

[user145752]

Webber Kang raised it up to 60,000 in early position, and Percy Mahatan made the call. It folded around to Gavin Smith in the small blind, and he moved all in for 761,000 total. Kang quickly got out of the way, and Mahatan thought for about 15 seconds, let out a big sigh, and folded his hand.

After that pot, Smith is almost up to a million, sitting on 952,000.

Jo Mo' Chips

We caught up to find Adel Jo all in and at risk against Marty Zabib.

Somerville Sinks Markowitz

Shamus

Ricky Markowitz pushed all in for his last 450,000 or so from middle position and it folded around to Jason Somerville in the blinds who called with only a few chips more. Markowitz turned over {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, but Somerville had woken up with {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades}, and after a quick check to ensure Somerville indeed had Markowitz covered, Markowitz wished his table mates good luck, shaking each player's hand before heading to the cashier's desk with his 111th-place ticket.
