The Rich Get Richer

The details of this hand escaped us as it unfolded fairly quickly when our attention was focused on the other table, but we do know that Huy Nguyen just lost a big pot and shipped about half his stack to Yung Hwang.

We didn't see Nguyen's hand as he mucked after calling a river bet and seeing Hwang's {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. Nonetheless, the result is Nguyen took a major hit to his stack while Hwang added to his already massive stack.

Mark Bonsack Eliminated in 12th Place ($31,855)

Mark Bonsack
Mark Bonsack

Mark Bonsack raised from the hijack only to have Ryan Eriquezzo move all in for around 200,000 from the small blind. Bonsack barely had him covered and made the call.

Showdown
Bonsack: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Eriquezzo: {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

Bonsack was in great shape and a favorite to eliminate Eriquezzo while essentially doubling his own stack. Unfortunately for him, all that hope and excitement came crashing down on the {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop when Eriquezzo hit his jack. Bonsack still had outs to either a king or ten, but it wasn't in the cards as the {7-Diamonds} appeared on the turn followed by the {4-Clubs} on the river.

Bonsack was left with just 3,000 after the hand, which disappeared the very next hand to Yung Hwang. Bonsack finished in 12th place and earned $31,855 for his efforts here in the 2012 National Championship.

Eugene Katchalov Eliminated in 13th Place ($26,439)

Amanda Musumeci raised from early position only to have Eugene Katchalov move all in from the small blind. Musumeci made the call and had her opponent dominated.

Showdown
Musumeci: {A-}{8-}
Katchalov: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The {K-}{K-}{3-} flop kept Musumeci in the lead but provided Katchalov with some chop options, while the {5-} turn gave him even more out to a wheel. Unfortunately for Katchalov, the {A-} river was no help and he was eliminated in 13th place, good for $26,439.

Hwang Adds to Already Huge Stack

We saw a giant pot get pushed to Yung Hwang. The board was {J-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Hwang bet 60,000 on the river and got Ryan Eriquezzo and Matt Keikoan to fold.

Musumeci Doubles Through Gardenhire

Amanda Musumeci opened for 21,000 and Justin Gardenhire raised to 53,000 from the cutoff. The blinds released and Musumeci took a while to think and then pushed out a tall stack of T5,000 chips - about 130,000.

Gardenhire moved all in and Musumeci called.

Musumeci: {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}
Gardenhire: {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}

The board ran {6-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {7-Spades} {4-Hearts} {2-Spades} and Musumeci doubled up.

Brian Rast Eliminated in 14th Place ($26,439)

Brian Rast

Sam Stein raised to 20,000 from early position and cleared the field all the way around to Brian Rast, who defended from the big blind. The latter proceeded to check the {Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop and watched as Stein bet 22,000. Rast thought for a few moments and then announced he was all in, prompting Stein to snap-call.

Showdown
Stein: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Rast: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Both players had flopped top pair, but Stein's ace kicker had him out in front. Neither the {5-Clubs} turn nor {7-Hearts} river would help Rast, and he sent his stack of 175,000 over to Stein.
